Your Morning Fix
- The peso sank to the PHP 59 per dollar level Thursday, reaching a two-week low, as rate-cut expectations and a dim economic growth prospects weighed on sentiment.
- The Senate approved on second reading the PHP 6.793-trillion 2026 budget, cutting public works funds and unprogrammed appropriations.
- The Philippines cut export targets through 2028 due to global trade and shipping disruptions, with Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP) projections now pegged at USD 110.8 to USD 113.4 billion for 2025, USD 116.1 to USD 120.2 billion for 2026.
- US jobless claims fell by 27,000 to 191,000 in the week ended Nov. 29, the lowest in over three years, signaling employers are holding onto workers despite recent layoff announcements.
- Announced US layoffs fell to 71,321 in November, data from Challenger, Gray & Christmas. November’s job cuts were the highest for the month since 2022.
