Rates Outlook: Buy dollars on dips
Holiday effects, global headlines, and persistent importer demand contributed to the volatility last week

Maria Christina “Yna” Virtudazo, Investment Counselor, Financial Markets Sector, Metrobank, said initial dollar weakness ensued after US President Donald Trump removed Fed Governor Lisa Cook. This, however, was quickly offset by importer demand. The volatility continued throughout the week, with the dollar peso closing at 57.13 by Friday. Importer demand may continue to support a move higher this week, hence our preference for buying dollars on dips in the absence of clear catalysts.
