It was a mixed bag for the power and utilities sector.
Two companies’ earnings in the first quarter of 2025 were dragged by lower electricity spot prices while one saw continued momentum.
Earnings by Semirara Mining and Power Corp. (SCC) and ACEN Corp. (ACEN) were behind consensus estimates. On top of lower electricity spot prices, SCC was also impeded by normalizing coal prices, while ACEN contended with extended outages of wind farms as well as lower solar output.
